About Polycab India Ltd
Incorporated in 1996, Polycab India Limited is a leading manufacturer in the electrical sector. The company specializes in cables and wires and has expanded into fast-moving electrical goods (FMEG). Headquartered in Mumbai, Maharashtra, Polycab offers a range of products, including power cables, control cables, flexible wires, and FMEG products such as fans, LED lighting, switches, and solar solutions.
Polycab operates primarily in India but has extended its reach to countries across Asia, Africa, the Middle East, Europe, and America.
History of Polycab
In 1964, the Jaisinghani family started Thakur Industries, a small cable manufacturing company, which later, in 1983, registered as Polycab Industries. In 1996, it incorporated as Polycab Wires Private Limited.
In 1998, the company set up a facility at Daman for PVC-insulated power cables, house wires, telephone cables, optical fibre cables, switchboard cables, and quad cables.
Key milestones:
- Entered FMEG with switches in 2013 and fans/LEDs in 2014.
- Went public in 2019 with a ₹1,345 crore IPO, oversubscribed 52 times.
- Launched HOHM IoT solutions in 2020 for smart homes.
- Ranked 161st in the Fortune India 500 (2023) with ₹14,206 crore revenue.
- In 2023, achieved a 26% market share in wires and cables.
Business and Offerings of Polycab
- Wires and Cables: Polycab is the largest manufacturer of wires and cables in India, with 10,600+ SKUs. In FY24, the company made around ₹15,892 crore in revenue from this vertical.
- FMEG: The company offers 6,000+ SKUs in the vertical, including electric fans, LED lighting, switches, switchgear, solar products, water heaters, and home automation solutions. In FY24, it made ₹1,283 crore in revenue from FMEG.
EPC and others: Policab also provides engineering, procurement, and construction services for power distribution and rural electrification.
