About Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd
Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), a key PSU in India’s power infrastructure sector, was incorporated on November 13, 1964, and supplies equipment to nearly 53% of the country’s conventional power capacity.BHEL’s business is mainly divided into two segments:
- Power Segment: Designs, manufactures, and supplies equipment for thermal, hydro, nuclear, and gas power plants, and provides EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) services, managing projects from design and installation to commissioning and after-sales support . The segment accounted for 71.1% of BHEL’s total revenue from operations in Q1 FY26.
- Industry Segment: Provides equipment and end-to-end solutions across rail transportation, defence and aerospace, transmission, renewables, petrochemicals, and the emerging coal-to-chemicals sector, supporting key industrial infrastructure. The Industry segment contributed the remaining 28.9% of BHEL’s total revenue from operations in Q1 FY26.
The company operates in over 90 countries, executing projects such as hydroelectric and thermal power plants. It has also partnered with Coal India Ltd. to set up Bharat Coal Gasification Limited, which produces ammonia and chemicals using indigenous coal gasification technology.
