About Aruna Hotels Ltd

Aruna Hotels Ltd, formerly Aruna Sugars Enterprises Ltd, was promoted by Dr. Maruthai Pillai in September 1960 with a diversified presence in Sugar, Hotels and Chemicals. The company has undertaken restructuring exercises such as divesting from the Sugar unit, flour mill and Alum unit. They have also set up a discotheque and bar, along with other facilities like health club, specialty restaurant and business centre in order to improve efficiency and quality. In particular their 16x2 MW project was completed in two stages, at a cost of Rs 50 cr, and became operational in September 1996. Despite all of this, their international division had to temporarily suspend operations during the overseas recession in the leather market. In January 2005, the company hived off the hotel undertaking to Aruna Hotels Pvt Ltd, a subsidiary of the company.
