About Singer India Ltd

Singer India was established in the 19th century as Indian Sewing Machines by The Singer Company US in Mumbai, India. It initially marketed indigenously produced sewing machines, and then diversified into a range of household appliances in 1984. In 1986, it launched an indigenous model of an automatic sewing machine for fashion designing. In 1989, Himec India became a wholly owned subsidiary of the company, mainly to export the Zig Zag machine. In 2000-2001, the company started manufacturing Ironing Presses and added another model of Washing Machines. It set up a new factory to produce audio and black & white TV sets, and its Jammu Factory achieved ISO 9002 Certification. From 1999-2000, XL1000 and XL100 fully computerised sewing machines were imported from Singer, and Microwave Ovens & Steamlite Irons were also imported. In 2000-2001, product offerings were expanded in Refrigerators, Colour TVs and Foodprocessors. In July-September 2002, a Rights Issue of 1:1 equity shares at par of Rs.10/each was approved, increasing the Share Capital to Rs.15.65 crores. During the year 2003-2004, three new imported models of Zig Zag sewing machines were introduced and Industrial Sewing Machines were introduced.
