About Prashant India Ltd

Prashant India (formerly Prashant Proteins) was founded as a private limited company in 1983 and later converted to a public limited firm in 1985. An expansion and modernization plan was financed by a public issue and the company managed to survive and perform well during the 1986 - 1988 drought period in Gujarat. They came out with rights offer in 1993 to finance their working capital requirements and expand the infrastructure for their international merchandise division. To diversify the business they started a project to manufacture polyester fabrics and yarn as a backward integration plan. The name was changed to Prashant India in 199495 and it became the second largest exporter of rapeseed deoiled cakes from India, amassing 31.12Cr in exports. The company has installed five 200KW wind generators and plans to expand their wind farm up to 2MW. As a result of price reduction and shut down of the Agro Division in 19992000, the turnover declined and the company has approached the BIFR for suitable action under the Sick Industrial Companies.
