JP Power (Jaiprakash Power Ventures Limited), a part of the Jaypee Group, is a renowned player in India’s power sector. The company operates in various spaces like coal mining, sand mining, cement grinding, and the production of thermal and hydroelectric electricity. It was incorporated in 1994, which eventually evolved from a single hydropower plant project to a diversified power producer that includes hydro and thermal power.
In March 2005, the company got listed on the stock exchange by raising ₹576 crore through the IPO. Previously known as Jaiprakash Hydro-Power Ltd, the company changed its name to Jaiprakash Power Ventures Ltd in 2009. In 2015, it invested ₹1,000 crore in its subsidiary, Prayagraj Power Generation Company Ltd, for setting up a 1,980 MW thermal power plant.
